Pilot campaigns in the Netherlands
The first pilot campaign with GEEA labelled TV's ran from December 2001
until February 2002. It included 13 shops of a large retail chain called
IT's. It resulted in 'recognition' of over a 1500 sold GEEA TV's. This
accounts for 21 % of the total. In turnover this is 31 % of the total
(in TV's). If we take all shops it adds up to 4000 (not all labelled)
GEEA rated TV's (19%). Halfway the 1000th GEEA TV is celebrated (picture)

It is hard to say which part is caused by the promotion and which part
is due e.g. to the Euro conversion and other reasons. This is subject
for investigation. In a survey the consumer stated in general that he
likes a energy label on consumer electronics and would look for it when
it is more known and visible
The 2nd pilot - The IT's chain (70 shops) - will promote
the GEEA label in the shop. It runs from august 2002 until further notice.
The GEEA label will be presented in their 2 weekly magazine (reaching
millions of consumers) . At the start the renewal of the list due to the
new criteria (including on-mode) gave some delay. The few manufacturers
that know the GEEA label a little bit, do not know about the "Energy Efficiency
Index". They rarely - if ever - consider improving their products in this
way, just because GEEA promotes it. The pilot has triggered new retail
chains. (07.08.02)
